christmas time

Like most things in our home, Christmas is built up around our kitchen table. Instead of our presents being under the tree, where our cat (who loves wrapping paper!) can get to them, they are set at the end of our table. We start the day, bleary eyed and excited, with breakfast eaten there. And as we peel and chop and stir in preperation for a huge lunch, our family sit and chat around that table. We stay there all afternoon, looking through books and sharing photographs, playing games and telling stories.

This Christmas was a lovely one. It changed slightly from the ones before. The incessant rain and the flooded back garden were far from festive. Since my mum worked at the hospital that night, our festivities drew to a close in the late afternoon instead of in the evening. But there was delicious food, lovely family, and plenty of fun. That's what matters, right?

Merry (belated!) Christmas and happy new year!
